Forgot to add:
Live DVD mode is not supported guest OS. (VirtualBox)
Use - a real DVD-RW.
Note:

Installation from LiveDVD on HDD:
# calculate -d /dev/sdXX
  (Where XX - name and number of hard disk partition, sda2 - for example)

Section number to indicate it is necessary!, If you specify the entire disk
  sda - for example, the utility will calculate partition your hard disk in its discretion,
  and erase data. (used for installation on a blank hard disk).

A list of common installation options
- set-format=reiserfs (ext4, ext3, ext2, jfs, xfs) - file system format;
- set-video_resolution=1280x1024 (1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x800, etc.) - the screen resolution (actually, if the current screen resolution you are not satisfied);
- set-hostname=linux - computer's network name
- set-mbr=off - do not modify the MBR during the installation (set to 'off', if you want to use your loader);

more options
- set-erase=off - not to format the partition before the installation (use if unsure).

Installing a hard disk with LiveDVD, takes about 6-10 minutes, depending on your hardware.

If you use a separate partition boot, then you need to copy the
contents of the directory of the boot /
Then edit the grub.conf section under the boot, and add the mount point
in fstab

After installation - recomended:

Make a few basic device nodes needed for booting
# mknod -m 660 /mnt/gentoo/dev/console c 5 1
# mknod -m 660 /mnt/gentoo/dev/null c 1 3
# mknod -m 600 /mnt/gentoo/dev/initctl p
(optional; needed for gensplash) # mknod -m 660 /mnt/gentoo/dev/tty1 c 4 1

Reboot
